At Gracenote Films (formerly Vintage Images videography) we’ve come to affectionately refer to amateur videography as being done by “Uncle Larry”. Uncle Larry is typically the well meaning guest or family member who tells you, “Don’t worry, I’ll save you money. I will videotape your wedding!” Without considering the long-term benefits of having a well-filmed, beautifully edited documentary of their wedding day done by someone who knows what they are doing, many couples think this is a great idea. They’ll be able to spend more on the signature foil embossed napkins now.
But we’ve heard the stories, from couples who have made the right decision to come to us, how disappointed their friend or family member was with their video having chosen to rely on, let’s say, lesser quality methods of capturing video. Without the equipment, the expertise, or the single minded focus of a dedicated professional, Uncle Larry is prone to getting caught up in the party. It is extremely challenging to be both a guest and a worker and the lure of conversation at the bar with cousin Frank can easily take Larry away from getting an important shot. With Uncle Larry on the job, there is the distinct possibility that you will either have nothing or you have nothing you will ever want to watch again.
You’ve made a great choice to have a professional wedding videographer! Like you, this couple wanted a great wedding video. They hired us, but also allowed us to share the video given to them by a family member. We’ve called out a few notable points in the clip; have a look.
Now see the difference in what we filmed for them.
